When I had Win98 on my pc I could just go to the start menu and choose shut
down. My pc would automatically turn off.  Now that I have WinXP(home), when
I do that I get the message "it is now safe to shut off your computer". Then
I have to manually press the on/off button.

I've had the XP upgrade (from ME) for a week now and it keeps freezing up on
me. I usually get to use the PC for a few minutes and then it freezes up.
What causes this and how can I prevent it? I can be online or working on an
file, document etc.

I have been using MSN Messenger and I disabled Windows Messenger, but cant
remember how !! I now want to go back to Windows Messenger and have
uninstalled MSN ...... And will this work for me if I am not using Outlook? I
am currently using Mozilla Thunderbird email programme.

With all the concern about spyware, viruses and the like, how can we know
who to trust?
For example, someone new to this newsgroup does not kow the "regulars" so
what criteria can we use to be reasonably sure that the sites recommended

can't delete it either.

I have set my screen saver to show "My Pictures".  It
works fine when I am logged on.  But, as soon as I log
off and go to the logon screen, the only screen saver is
the "Windows XP Home Edition" logo.

I installed Adobe Reader 7.0 as an administrator user. A shortcut was placed

When I try to remove an adware program ("weatherbug") i get a message:
