Received no replies in Win help and support so: I suddenly have a icon on my desktop called desktop. If I try to delete it I get a warning that it could affect other programs "not the standard warning that says it only deletes the shortcut not the program".

Each time I power of my computer, I get a message that says hpcmpmgr.exe is not responding and do I want to end task now. I am not sure what the problem is, It just started to happen. Could it be a VIRUS?

Not meant to sound like an inflammatory question? I've just had to upgrade to XP with my new laptop, always used 2000 before. The laptop is not running as fast as I'd like, out of the box. It's a 2.8Ghz Celeron, with 256MB Ram.

Why doesnt the System Prop. Sheet list the exact amount of ram and/or proper pc name? Purchased Dell XPSGEN4, system prop.sheet states XPSGEN3 and only lists 3of the 4gb of ram loaded. Bios states that there is 4gb of ram installed, why the difference with the system prop. ...

How do I control what programs automatically run at start up in xp. I had it down pat with win 98 but can't figure out how to turn off certain programs that boot automatically when I turn the computer on. Thanks for any help you can give.
