I want to reformat a hard drive with XP Home installed. When I boot into Safe Mode with Command Prompt, enter format c: & the drive label, I get the following error message: "Format cannot run because the volume is in use by another process."

Is it possible to explore your computer drives (as in right click the start menu, explore) and click on an image file with details and see the thumbnail of that picture. I need to have both the explore part open, and details active, yet would like to see the image as well.

Could some kind soul out there tell me how to clear all the rubbish out of the "Open With" dialog box.(not the context menu) It's still got programs in there that I got rid of long ago. I've tried the registry and searched the web for tips, couldn't find one...

i had to reinstall win xp over a perivous winxp installation. Now I have two admin accounts. One admin is from the perivous installation of win xp and the other is from the reinstallation of win xp. i am unable to access my old admins files.

I recently upgraded to XP Professional from Windows 98. XP backed up all the folders and kept them but did not back up any of the files that were in them. I lost a large number of pictures. Is there any way to recover them or are they gone forever?

My "out of the box" laptop running XPPro has no difficulty in displaying Japanese characters in websites such as Babelfish, et al. Unfortunately this is not the case with my similarly equipped desktop. What do I need to add and to where, to achieve the same functionality?
