Windows/Computer freezes for no reason!16 Jan 2004 08:49 GMT1
Hi,the problem is that i could be doing anything and so
suddenly without ANY warning windows will just STOP. I
have no clue what is causing this and any ideas would be
helpful.

Hi, When I go to shut down my computer, it freezes in
Windows is shutting down.  I have to take the battery and
plug out, I know, not good.  
When I turn the computer back on, it takes 4 minutes to

I've just done a "clean install" on a laptop that was extremely cluttered and almost full harddrive...i even had to delete alot of programs to have enough room to even begin installing XP..

this problem is intermittent and very annoying. Usually a
right click on a folder in Widows Explorer will start the
problem. The whole desktop disapears and comes back after
several seconds but some icons in the systray will

on startup my system comes to desktop in 30 secs, but some process is runing in the back that prohibits me form doing nothing until 60 more seconds. I ran bootvis and it is till the same, by looking at the activity via bootvis I saw that HSF_MSFT.SYS (my modem driver) works a lot ...

I have deinstalled Word (Office XP) and reinstalled,
however, this does not solve the problem.  Everytime I go
into Word and start typing, it will freeze up and
then "This program is not responding" will appear

can I reinstall a partially uninstalled program (Word in
Works Suite 2000)over a part of itself that was fatally
flawed during installation?  It is so flawed that I can't

I cannot find any restore points for my computer although I thought i created a restore point as soon as i finished installing all of my software.  I checked and the restore system in not turned off.  Any Idea where they might have done or what i did wrong

I have windows xp and it is constantly freezing up on me and it will show a box saying that it has low memory. I will have like 68% free space when I turn the computer on and then when I go on line it will go down to 4-5-6--7% free space and thats when everything happens

profile in WinXP Home edition.  We might be getting them in one or more
profiles with Administrator permission level.
