well heres my problem:
Windows XP Windows will not start at all, even though I
have not made any system changes, and I have not installed
or removed any programs

I am using Windows XP  with SP1, 512MB of ram on a athlon 1800.
After a period of time,  a day, a couple hours,  explorer.exe
continually take up more ram and CPU resources.  It get to the point
where it is taking up 270MB of memory and CPU usage is contantly

process that just goes by itself and won't stop(eats up
memory). Needless to say windows will not finish loading

Can anyone recommend a good book that covers what each of the services does? I read an article recently, the gist of which was that too many services opened tended to slow down performance - particularly at booting up. Would appreciate any pointers. Tks.

I wanted to remove a couple of programs from my WinXP PC,
so I went to add/rmv progs and there are the
headers; "Currently installed programs" and "Sort by",
but nothing at all listed below. There are listings under
