I have been experiencing very slow performance lately.
When I get to the welcome screen, computer hangs there
for up to 7 minutes before my desktop appears. Also,
cannot always access my start button. Only programs on

Till yesterday things seemed to go south, but today  
looks like the evil knocked on my door. I have had
several Restore Points on my PC. Once I opened
Windows "System Restore" Program, all the RPs were gone.

Is it possible anywhere to download an update or service
pack etc on one computer (that has broadband) and save it
to a CD to install later on my other computer (with a
dial up connection)?

I had Norton's SystemWorks 2003 installed and recently
removed it. When I did the recycle bin changed. Now I
only have the icon on the desktop and when I click it
nothing happens or it seems to be looking for it.

Sometimes I get little red x's wehre a graphic or a
picture should be. Why is this, and how can I fix it?

was told to update Java, but I've forgotten what and how.

I recently cleaned off some (I thought)redundant programs
like Media Player and things that I never use. Seems I
have lost something essential in the process as my printer
now does not receive any signals from the p.c.

Has anyone had a problem with the hard disk activity light remaining on?  It
does'nt flicker or turn off at all.  It started yesterday for no known
reason.  I ran a scan disc and everything is fine.  The computer runs fine

Does anybody out there know the command to write to a CD from the XP command
line. I'm trying to do scheduled backups to a CDRW but don't know how to
schedule the actual writing process.
It seems like the easiest way to do this is run the command in a batch file.

The "Disk Cleanup" program in  "System Maintenance"

I recently got a new computer whose specs exceed my old
one in every way.  However, when I try to play games such
as Halo or Battlefield 1942, the performance is very
choppy, far worse than my old computer.  This computer is
