How often should the harddisks on an XP machine that is
used daily be defragmented?

I recently signed up for DSL service and and now
continually get error message 'System Shutdown' - service
terminated unexpectedly.
Also getting Win32 Generic Host Process error message -

I can partition second disk on the same pc without any

I have 3 networked computers, mine being the host, each time one logs in it comes up as "<whoever> is now connected or unplugged". Thats what I want to turn off, its most annoying.
