The Win XP client is connected thru his LAN card and the network and domain connection function OK. Still the LAN adapter shows the red cross over the icon and says "network cable disconnected", but it is not! Some tips?

Everything I do on my computer is a chore now. I can take a shower in the time it takes to open a file. Nothing works, Word does whatever it wants to, if I defragment and re-boot - I have to defragment again. I tried wiping out my hard drive and re-installing ME then upgrading ...

When using category view in control panel, icons appear under the "other control panel options" rather than under the correct category, including "system". what can I do to fix this?

When I run Checkdisk, it shows that it runs through Phase 1 and then gets all the way to the end of Phase 2 and gives me a message that "Windows is unable to complete disk check." What is going on? I am on a new Dell that is barely over a month old!
