I have recently discovered just how naive I am. Perhaps it's due to growing senility or perhaps it's just pure stupidity. However, computers have been getting the better of me of late. Hopefully somebody out there can shed some light on the following problems.

after i connect to the internet, my computer stops responding for 5 minutes. i can move the mouse, double click on a program (IE, etc) and nothing happens. after a while all of the "opened" programs flood open.
