I have recently replaced the OS of a Presario 7000 to XP home. After noticing incredibly slow performance, upgraded ram to 512. Sytem still is painfully slow. Could this be a bad H.D.?, What else would cause such slow speed after a fresh OS install?

I have Office 2003 SetUp files stored on my HD. When I do XP CleanDisk, these SetUp Fiels are always analyzed which delays the actual cleaning process. Is there a way - apart from deleting the SetUp files - to avoid CleanDisk to analyze these files? Thanks

When certain programs accessed, an annoying sound similar to a mooing cow sounds out i.e.when msn, google accessed. Ad-aware, Norton anti virus and spybot searches indicate no viruses yet annoying sound comes on spradically. Any ideas what this is and how to get rid of it?
