I am trying to help a friend defrag her computer. When we go to system tools and ask that the defrag start, it will go to about 3% and then close down the computer. This computer is in dire straights and needs to be defraged.

When I try to run disc cleanup, it says "Calculating and scanning: compress old files" but nothing else happens. My CPU usage also goes to 100% and stays that way even after cancelling the disc cleanup.
