When I try to shut down the computer in WinXP professional, it restarts
instead of shutting down. Any ideas?

Yesterday some web site has hijacked my broswer.  I have
run spy bot and adware, and norton antivirus, it is up to
date every day.  I finally reinstalled windows xp home.  
My browser still will not let me change my hompage, it

I have a Windows XP Pro system that when it is turned on,
It come up and instead of seeing the login screen , the
screen is either black, or is green color of desktop, but
no icons or words. HAve gone into safe ode, and disabled

70% of the time my system hangs at or just after the boot screen when
switched on. The reset button and warm boots seem to be OK. The other 30% of
the time cold boots are OK as well. I have no viruses, and this issue
started only within the last month after I moved to a new house ...

I have some kind of program that got installed itself on
my lap top computer. I believe it is responsible for
annoying pop-ups. I am unable to remove it by regular
procedure in a control panel. It says in German that it

I have XP Pro installed on a Toshiba Satellite laptop,
1.8GHz Pentium IV, 256 Mb RAM.  It was a clean install
with a new machine.  I am running Office, Acrobat, scanner
software, and a few other odds and ends such as a time

When i get to my start up screen i get the following

i cannot access help and support. the following message
appears "windows cannot find helpctr.exe". help sections
in other programs do not work either.
