I am a fairly new puter user and routinely do the maintenance things...disk
clean,defrag...Today I did and a disk check and a message came up "windows
unable to complete the disk check".
I am running xp home and my method was going to my computer>right click on C

Opening any local file takes more then 40 sec to open.But as soon as i
disconnect from the network ,the local files open in 1 sec.
This happens occasionaly.

Hello there, hope you can help me.
I can't get my pc to wake up when I'm in WinEx. It's very sluggish and even
freezes. Every other application works fine but WinEx. I've run three
different anitvirus programs, I've cleared all the unecessary junk. I've even

Drive #2 labelled F has developed 'bad blocks'  several chkdsk scans
produce many files so I believe the Event and System log reports even
though the name listed didn't exactly match the name of the second hard
drive<grin>

Although I consider myself an intermediate PC user, I am more of a novice
when it comes to settings and configurations. Today after accessing
Tools/Internet Options/Settings/View Objects, I noticed the following two
files showing "status damaged".

I deleted most of a reader file from XP HE but am left with one file on my
desktop when i try to delete it i get a message saying
Error Deleting File or Folder
cannot delete AcroIEHelper.cx: access is denied.

OK I know how to prevent this problem in the future, but I need to find a way
to fix what is there.
I upgraded a 2K machine by installing a second hard drive (D), installing a
NEW copy of XP Pro on D: and reinstalling all the applications, and then

I use a 64MB Memory Key to back up files from MS XP. It has worked OK for a
year. Today when I attempted to open the Mem. Key, the , the MY Computer
screen went blank. No way I can access the Mem. Key icon.. If I click on
properties it shows 1MB used and 3MB available on a 64MB ...

I have hit a wall and nothing seems to be helping.  Everyone seems to
have reboot problems and blue screens and all that fun stuff but I
dont.  My computer chooses to simply turn off after its been running
for approximatly 2-5 minutes.  It never says why, it never does it at

Upgraded from a 40Gig Hard Drive to a WDC 1200JBRTL (120 Gig) drive this
evening.  System is booting and seemed to run fine.
I let the software that came with the Western Digital 120 Gig do the disk
creation/copy of my  old boot drive onto the new drive.

Sorry for the long title.  Does anyone know how I would go about
de-compressing files on my main hard dirve that were compressed using the
disk cleanup utility?  It is a bit tedius to go through each and every folder
on my hard drive and decompress each file.

The Error message that I am getting is "The selected port, COM1, is not
available at this time. HotSync Manager will open the port when ir becomes
available." I have seen this message today for the first time, the only thing
new is the fact that I tried to reinstall Palm one CD ...

I have an executable file compiled in C that does numerically intensive
calculations that I use as a benchmark of computer performance.
I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2.
When I run it on one computer Task Manager shows a CPU Usage History of 100 %.
