laptop has suddenly slowed right down, only reference I can link is that

i am running windows xp home addition and it wont recognize my blank
disks when i am trying to burn a disk.everything else is working, my
drive plays dvds and cds but it wont burn. help please?

I was trying to check the contents of a CD I made of my photos but it had
trouble opening.  Later I checked the Event Viewer.  This is what I found.  
What does it mean?  Which device has a bad block?  My hard drive?  The CD?  
The CD-ROM?  How can I fix it?  

When downloading the popup for run/save appearsand clicking on Run the
computer shows that the file is being copied to a temporary file. When
finished it asks to install. On clicking install nothing happens. Checking
via windows explorer there hasn't been a download.  Same thing ...

I lied a little, it's not totally black; since my pc is a notebook, if I tilt
the screen differently I am able to see more/ less- but never more than the
sharpest contrasts- I can only make out black letters on white background if
I tip it almost all the way back and hold my head ...

Does anyone have suggestions on registry cleaning software for XP pro OS's? I
need a solution some of my computer are having some serious issues and i
