Help! My computer's system process always take 50% of CPU time, almost can not do anything with that computer, it is a windows XP pro, anybody has the similiar issue? what should I do to fix the problem?

Somehow my defrag program was deleted,(I suspect my daughter was clicking the mouse a little too enthusiastically!) How and where do I retrieve it off the xp disk? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my already slow, older machine is really starting to bog. Thanks in advance ...

I have had several weeks of sudden unexpected Windows stoppage and restarts. I determined that some at least were caused by a failing hard drive. I have replaced the hard drive. The stoppages, which were daily, are now occasional. Perhaps two in the last 2 weeks.
