I've noticed that opening the control panel is taking an annoying amount of
time. On minor investigation it transpires that whenever the control panel is
opened the services.exe process grabs about half the cpu time, sits there for
maybe 10secs before releasig the processor at ...

For many years I have been using the old Windows Macrorecorder
(recorder.exe), which still works nicely even under WindowsXP (Home ed.). I
am using it quite extensively with the Metastock technical anaysis program of
EQUIS (Reuters).

how do i access safe mode without having to tap the f8 button on start up i
want to change what programes start on startup

My links to other addresses don't work in my e-mail program.  I know
something has been modified, probably in my Registry that is causing

Hi, How to display concurrently Hibernation, Stand by, Turn Off, and Reset in
the Shut Down pop up (Start->Turn Off). I already checked Unable Hibernation
in Power Options. However, it requests to hold Shift key to change Stand by
into Hibernation during click on.

After over a year of stalling and dreading it, I installed SP2 today.  
Despite taking all precautions, still had problems after install.  Main
symptom is that the CPU stays pegged at 100% immediately from boot-up and
never stops.  Makes whole system practically non-responsive.

I have MCE 2005.  I've got two sticks of RAM at 512MB per.  I also have it
hooked networked with my XBOX 360.
I had a power outage that shut the system down and when it tried to reboot,
it would get to XP splash screen and reboot.  

every time i try to install or uninstall a program(not microsoft) i get an
error message 1606, which says windows installer could not access the network
location.
any help would be great!

Anybody ever have this error message before?  If so, what did you have to
do.  I checked my framework and the version is not the one listed in the
error, someone told me I'd have to upgrade, but I don't know how.

    During a fresh install of OS, I installed NIC driver update
for 3Com 3C900 card. IRQ and I/O conflicts resolved.
