I recently had to do a system recovery using my HP recovery disks. I originally upgraded from XP Home to HP Pro.(my son now is using the XP Pro in Germany). I made a backup which I have been able to retrieve however this Home edition

I recently encountered problems with malware, so when i tried deleting the files myself I somehow managed to delete the explorer.exe also. When I start my computer, the only thing that shows up is my desktop background. I am able to run programs from the task manager.

Is there a file or a part of the registry I can backup to save the position of my desktop icons? I am having problems setting up my display adapter and when I restore my screen, the icons get auto arranged and not where I left them.

The OS on my Dell Laptop is XP- Home edition . I have an Issue with Shutting Down Windows. All was fine untill I started using the wireless-LAN, ever since windows does not shut-down (or takes a really long time to shut-down).

I was able to add the backup utility for Home XP but when I backup a file I cannot open it. It says that it needs to know what program created the file and the two options are to go to the net or to a list of installed programs. Since none of these programs created the file
