Right, this is going to be a long explanation I am afraid.  When I first had
this PC I had the following setup
C: -> HD1 (Bootable)
D: -> CD-RW

Been burning music to CDs using Nero and the CD/DVD writer no longer shows
the CD label and volume info. The pop up no longer appears either when I
insert a CD asking what I want to do. However, if I do a restart with a CD in
the drive "My Computer" does show the disk info but ...

I have a Dell Deminsion 8400 the "C" Drive has 33.6 GB out of which 31.8 GB
is used and 1.82 GB is Free space.  I am not sure what is using so much of
the hard drive.  I use Quick Books Professional I imagine that  uses a good

I was using windows update, then upgraded to the microsoft update, and now
when i get to the Checking for the latest updates for your computer... page,
the green bar goes forever, without doing anything. My firewall says IE is
not sending or receiving packets, it just stops at ...

When i try to minimise a page, previously you could see the item under the
icons  on task bar. Now  when I minimise it disappears behind the task bar
so i have no means of bringing the page up again. Can anyone help me with

I use SAMSUNG CD-R/RW SW-252S and SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E disk drives.
Usually when either reading a disk, and sometimes when there's no disk in the
drive being used it makes a really loud "roaring" sound. I've looked at other

XP's default settings (RPGlobalInterval is 86400) are supposed to create a
restore point every 24 hours but it often misses days. Perhaps I don't
understand how it is measuring that 24 hours ... but I want to ensure that
System Restore creates at least one restore point per day. ...
