My control for volume is missing in the tool tray. If I try to use the function key to raise and lower volume it will not move off of 40. I have sound just no way to adjust volume. Any suggestions??

Sometimes by Windows XP is extreemly slow I am wondering if there is any smart way to see which application or where this comes from? I am running a 2G bytes mem, 2 x CPU Xeon 3 Ghz (1 core) so the hardware should be fine.
