HELP!  I desparately need to get an XP-pro PC to remote control an
XP-home PC by Monday!  (My version of pcAnywhere is too old for XP
so I'm trying MS's built-in Remote Assistance)
On the "novice" PC, I made an invitation file and sent it to the

I have 3 PC's all running XP Pro SP1 networked through a Netgear RP614
router.  I am trying to use remote desktop between the three.  I have
enabled it on all 3 machines, and it connects OK but wants a log on for the
PC I am trying to connect to.  Do I have to have a username set up ...

Installed needed sofrware, enabled on Win98SE, enabled on
WinXP, tried to connect - NO GO. Using "browse for more"
shows my network, but no computers displayed. Any idea

I have forwarded Ports 80 and 3389 to the XP Pro Computer
with Remote Desktop enabled.  What else need I do to make
a connection from outside the router?

Using a XP home computer, log into a Win2k server via a VPN connection using
PPTP, then use remote desktop control to control another XP computer on the
same LAN as the server?

I am trying to use Remote Assistant for the first time and have run into an error while trying to install the Remote desktop Web connection.  The message box needs to install the file ims.cab.  I insert the XP Professional CD, but it still can't find it.  Can someone help

Is there a setting I can apply to selected remote desktop users which
prevents them excising shutdown or reboot from menu. (WinXP Pro clients
Win2003 Host.)

Thanks for your help earlier today. I have successfully
forwarded the two ports as suggested. I am able to reach
the tsweb/Default.htm through Internet, but unable to log
on to the Remote Desktop with any user-name & password.

I am running an XP-Pro host and 2 different XP-Pro clients, and the
'local disk drives' option.
The local disk(s) show up but Windows explorer takes 3:27 (that's 3.5
minutes!!!) to open a local sub-folder for viewing. Folders on the

Please give me a tip on forwarding the ports... I really

group policies and applied them, EWhen I execute the

address works fine when the laptop is in the office
(WAN)...
