On the cheaper SOHO NAT routers, like the Linksys BEFSR4 and Netopia Cayman 3546, there is a thing called PPTP Passthru or equivalent. It's purpose it to allow Protocol 47 (GRE) packets to pass thru the router so the PPTP VPN will work. You also have to forward port 1723

In recent weeks, I cannot stay connected to my Terminal Server. I can connect fine, but I am kicked off every few minutes. It disconnects me with the error: "Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again."
