I attempted to set up remote access between a PC and Notebook, both using WinXP Pro SP2 OS and 56K modem for connection. I had successfully setup the dial-up and the incoming connections for the respective systems. But when I tried the remote access, problems arised.

I went through all the steps, and was able to connect remotely while connected to the same network. When I try it at home, The screen pops up, with the IP address on top, and sometimes I get a part of the windows logon box, but it never fully renders.

What's the difference between Remote Assistance, and Application sharing, (Where you are still able to share control of dekstop)? Please help, because I would like to know the limitations of each, as I regularly make alterations to a family member's computer remotely.
