Remote Desktop setup for 2 laptops on Adhoc Wireless Network18 Jul 2006 11:30 GMT3
I have 2 laptops running on XP Pro SP2, and have them connected through an
adhoc "peer to peer" wireless network (Windows firewall is ON, and data
encryption is enabled on both).
Would appreciate if anyone can advise on the requirements & procedure for

I used to be able to Remote desktop connect to my PC but now I can not
and I don't know when it stopped working.

When I connect to anothers pc using Remote assitance the mouse disappears
from there screen. It moves without movement of the mouse. Only when I view,
if I take control then my mouse works. Any known issues with the mouse? I
like to like the users show me what they are doing that ...

I have several softwares here that they don't work along well with MS RDP.
One software, in particular, does not even launch itself when it detects the
presence of a RDP connection.

It is possible to be able to shut down the host and restart the host from

I'm trying to connect from my home computer (Windows XP Professional Service
Pack 2) to a server (Windows 2000 Server) at work. When I try to log in, I
get the following message:
"To log on to this remote computer, you must have Terminal Server User

In the remote desktop instructions it states "The computer must also be part
of a corporate network in which remote desktop connections are permitted."  
Does this mean that if I have a simple business using only 2 computers and a

I'm trying to set up remote desktop on a friends computer.  I haven't seen
the computer, I'm doing it by phone.  He says he has XP.  I got him to click
'start' and right click 'my computer' then click 'properties' and then click
'Remote'.  When I do this procedure I get a Remote ...

All of my settings for remote are correct. However, when I do a netstat -a
command, I don't see port 3389 listening...
The registry is showing that this port is the default 3389 of term svcs and
has not been changed.

My remote desktop connection was working fine within my LAN (all 192.168.x.x
IP's)
I turned the computer off for about an hour, turned it back on and I can not
connect using remote desktop. I have done google searches and just can not

I'm able to change the port of remote desktop to 3390 but the firewall
exception in windows is set to 3389. (turning the firewall off, I can
connect just fine) There doesn't seem to be a way to edit it  (or do an
edit in the registry) so I'd like to add another exception set to 3390 ...

try to install it from the download center, it tells me I already have a
built in one in "Accessories / Communication".  When I open it, I am
