Are there any downsides to activating the Firewall
included with Windows XP?

I cannot activate my firewall in XP pro an error
message "An error has occurred while internet connection
Sharing was being enabled, The dependency service or
group failed to start" any ideas??

this is really simple i'm sure, but i can't figure out

Recently, I upgraded a computer from Win 98 to Win XP.  
During the initial setup screens, I chose the Networked
option as I intended to set up a wireless network with a
laptop.

New notebook running XP PRO. After boot the screen is
split by a line down the middle. The right side is blank.
The left has the Windows logo and "To begin, click user
name." There is nothing to click and no way to proceed.

My kids want to have ICQ and this internet program is

I made up an Excel spreadsheet with simple names and
addresses on a computer using Windows XP Home addition. I
then tried to send it via email to myself to be picked up
on another computer using XP  Professional.
