windows update is not updating correctly

I am using a laptop, which I want to synchronise with my desktop. I run
WinXP pro + XP firewall and direct connect (via LAN cable) to a WinXP home +
Zonealarm firewall. Two questions
When I synchronise files I can only do it so that the laptop accesses the

I recently had my computer set up to be logged on to a
network, I no longer have that set up but when I logon it
doesn't bring up the welcome screen. I went in to
change "user accounts-change the way users log on or off"

I have Windows XP and IE6.  I used to be able to view the
IE Internet Options>Security tab with this user but now I
can't.  I am the admin user for this pC.  I think it has
something to do with spyware, as I did a mjor cleanup

       Recently, I find there are a few folder were installed in my hard
drive while I was surfing the Net. Some folders are deletable but there is
one folder named DownloadWare that I can't delete. In this folder, there are
two folders(Download & Cfg) also a dw.exe.

I am trying to assign different levels of priviledge to different
users on a Windows XP Pro machine.  Unfortunately the only account
types are administrator or limited.  The are no further options in the
users section of the control panel.

When I logged on to my always on broadband connection today, This exe tried to reach the internet and was stopped by Zone alert, I don't recognise the file and have not knowingly downloaded anything recently. Is this innocent or virus

I have two windows 2000 professional computers and on xp
profesional computer on a network. One of the w2k machines
cant see the xp machine and the xp machine can't get
access to the w2k machine (but it does appear on the

I am running xp pro.  I installed xp a year or so ago as an upgrade to 98 everything has been running fine but I have recently been infected by Blaster Worm and now xp has locked me out from installing any protection software as it says I am not the administrator.  Help!

was advised when I first did that not to have it memorize
my password. So I didn't. I now realize that I should
