I would like to see if there is a way through scripting ,programming to query the status of the Security Center in XP, ie check to see if the firewall is on, antivirus up to date, etc when a computer connects to the network via vpn. I am capable of scripting, programming, etc ...

I've tried to shut the XP Firewall off. In the Security section of Control Panel, the XP Firewall button is in the off position but the staus light shows it as still on. Is there another way to disable XP Firewall?

I am unable to use the View / Remote Computer... option in msinfo32.exe to view information on remote computers with the Windows Firewall turned on. It looks like the firewall is blocking traffic on ports 137 and 138, among other things.

I just discovered some files which I never noticed before. I submitted them to VirusTotal but the scans did not find anything. I also performed a scan with HijackThis v1.99.1 and had the log file submitted and analyzed. The result of the log file was okay.
