okay, I have these 6 box's on the side of my screen that only appear on my
desktop, but I know they arn't part of it because I can't delete them from
right click, it won't even let me right click them, and I right clicked on
the desktop and selected hide all items on desktop, and ...

Am afraid to download one from an unknown site as it might really be spyware
or a keylogger in disguise, just can't trust anyone these days it seems.

We have a domain at work and the network administrator uses the network
to apply windows updates remotely. I do my updates regularly and so by
the time she gets around to updating I already have them all. Despite
this she runs the update program which then forces me to reboot the

I have a small network.
Main computer has XP Pro. The one I want to protect mostly.
Others have XP Home.

I get this sheild in my toolbar and I keep getting this pop up concerning
spyware.  If I click on it the "PC Protection Center" comes up about fighting
spyware.

Ran this twice & both times the Security Assessment was Severe Risk [one or
more critical checks failed].  The BSA Help shows nothing that I can find
about these critical checks or how to limit the risk.  Have many recommended
security apps, e.g. AVG, MS Antispyware, a firewall, ...

I need to administer machines remotely where XP SP2 needs to be
installed.  Problem:  once SP2 is installed, the firewall by default is
enabled and I can't reconnect to them with Dameware / Terminal Server

I had to re-install XP after a hard drive issue.  I was the admin but now
when I try to access this profile, I am told access is denied.  I know the
password, but can do not know how to enter a password to gain access.  What
do I do?

Can someone tell me what ports to open in Windows Firewall to allow access to
the Admin$ share?  Ever since SP 2 and the latest service packs have been
applied, I am unable to access the admin$ share on my network pc's---unless I
completely disable windows firewall.

Can anyone help me? My taskbar and icons appear for about 10 seconds on boot
up and disappear, I have to access by task manager to get anywhere. Virus
swept with latest Norton and nothing came up. Any ideas please, kind regards

Is there a way to force an xp machine to automatically shutdown or reboot if
a certain program is closed. I currently have 9 xp machines setup to auto
logon and start a certain program. For security reasons I would like the
machine to shutdown or reboot if the program is closed.
