We are unable to access any https sites using Internet Explorer, but we have been able to access using Mozilla. Has something happened with our settings, or are there any suggestions to correct the problem?

Every time my computer starts up the computer has a note in the lower right that reads: "Virus protection off" I click the icon and it goes to the security center and a second later it goes from off to on. How do I correct this, as I ended up with 9 viruses last week. thanks!
