My Dell came with Win XP Pro SP1, and when they sent me a Dell SP2 CD with a
replacement box (and SP1 installed on it) i transferred over all my files and
then installed SP2 (but there was a hitch) and XP Pro SP2 lost track of the
huge change file it made for going back to SP1.  ...

I'm trying to start terminal services and it keeps complaing with
1083 error. That's weird on its own. But the really strange thing i
when I look at the dependencies for any service, they are blank. I

i have a wireless workgroup that consists of a windows xp home edition PC and
Windows xp pro PC.  They are both on a wireless LAN/workgroup.  Both PCs can
PING eachother fine and both can "see" the other in Network Places...that is,

A few hours ago I was working at my computer (Toshiba laptop) and I got a
rather odd message window, saying that my computer might be vulnerable to the
mytob virus and that it was recommended that I "DOWNLOAD" (in all caps)
updates, or something to that effect. There was nothing ...

Does anyone knows whats the maximum time you can command the shutdown.exe to
wait untill it exes? the number you add at the end of the line have to be in
seconds so if you want to wait an hour or a whole day, can you add a huge
number like 3600 or 82000? thank you

XP upgrade and now I can't share files or change workgroup21 May 2006 15:54 GMT4
I upgraded an older computer from Win98 to XPSP2.  The name of the workgroup
is MSHOME and it is grayed out so I cannot change it.  I also cannot share
the drives on that machine.  Is there something in XP that I have to enable
after upgrading??

Windows Firewall is on but I see no security icon in
the taskbar. Is there a setting to display this icon?

Does Microsoft take Security seriously? We are constantly being told to
keep your PC up-to-date and to run Windows Update.... yet what happened
to me could happen to anyone.

I have two users in win xp pro. One Administrator, and one "User". The admin
power options are set to standby after 2 hours. Will the pc go on standy
after 2 hours no matter who is logged in? I know the user doesnt have to
ability to change his power options, wich is what I want. ...
