When I change the folder options > View> to enable the viewing of known file types and OS systems files, the setting does not take effect and reverts back to its original setting. I can't find any err being logged in event vwr. Im using XP SP2.

It appears the storage unit (location the registry file was saved) has gone bad. When windows tries to boots it goes to the dreaded blue screen and tells me the registry hive (file) is corrupt. It lists a file path but I don't recall it now, it ends in Software.
