I have used Zonealarm Pro for years.  I recently tried to upgrade it and it
blew up.  The old version stopped working and the new one could not be
installed.  I spent hours working on it to little avail.  So I turned windows

Hello! I recently reformatted my pc and reinstalled WinXP home.
When I restart the computer, a pop up displays that my computer is currently
at risk, and there are no firewalls turned on.
If I click on that icon, I can turn the firewall ON (it is not greyed out)

I am not on a domain, home net work, admin on my machine, logged in as such.
And yet the firewall is grayed out.
I log in to pc with admin rights.
Since I can not turn it off, even with gpedit.msc, I can uninstall sp2.

After searching for 30 plus minutes, I still can't find an answer to this
question.  Remote Desktop stores a history of users that have been used to
connect to other computers.  How can I clear this out?

Can anybody tell me what this is? Found useing jv16 under programs.
Also in the Add remove programs in XP i have several programs that don't have a remove option, a search of this problem showed i wasn't the only 1 having it.

On shutdown the monitor goes into standby mode.   How can it be completely
switched off?
Failing that can the user get a message asking them to fully switch off the
monitor?

In searching for a solution to my problem, I happened to come across a couple of posts that referred
to the registry being "tattooed".  Well, here, this is one of them:
So in effect Windows 2k and 2k3 server can tattoo the registry, even though
it is not supposed to ... :)
