I posted this in general section but i thought it might be security related

My Laptop got the blue screen of death doing bootup right after the windows
XP splash screen.  I did everything to repair the installation but it didn't
work.  i figure i'd do a parallel installation and then backup my data and
reformatt the hard drive and start fresh.

If I have a hardware SPI firewall, does that prevent my computers from
becoming a zombie or part of a botnet? In other words, can a firewall block
commands from reaching botnets bots?

Bit of a problem, I inherited a an 2003 AD domain that has users set up with
spaces in the names, e.g. joe bloggs
anyway I need to get rid of the spaces, e.g. joebloggs as the new NAS we
have will only accept non space names. I know how to change the user name in
