I've been trying to remove quite a few (>10) read-only folders & their subfolders by following the workaround instructions found at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/256614, but I'm still unable to remove the folders.

Where do I go to get good reliable advice that you don't have to be a tech to understand? I read one place that "xxx" antivirus is the best, then someplace else it says that particular software is not very good. Same for Spyware software.

I run Win XP Home. Two days ago, it started requiring I select which app to use when opening ANY application. When I try to update using Win Update, it asks me to download, then a box appears asking to save (I do) and the window asking which app to use pops up again. A circle.

How safe is data stored on an XP Professional System if it is stolen. The system has two accounts, Guest and one user. Both are Password protected. The Hard Drive is NTFS format. The Data area Permission gives full access to the group "Everyone".

Sometime yesterday all my encrypted files became inaccessible. My system password hasn't changed, and my encrypted file system certificate is still intact and valid. I can encrypt new files and decrypt them just fine. I'm confused as to how this happened. Any
