I have what i'm sure is a virus, have run online virus check from symantec
and mcafee plus checked with windows live onecare and nothing has been found,
unfortunately I don't have antivirus installed at this time. System restore
won't open at all and on boot up once windows opens ...

Can anyone tell me why logging into windows XP SP2 the user name comes up as
"user" instead of the actual name used/placed into the user account (only one
user called XXX on this computer)?  It’s not hard to change, but it is
annoying to have to change it when there is no "user" ...

I can not turn on auto updates.   I went to the strt button  keyed in the
service command..   I open the auto update properties and try to turn on the
auto updates.. no luck.after several attempts it will ccept auto but when I
click start it will go bacl todisabled.    whats up?

I have a notebook set up with a single user with admin privileges.
Everything worked OK, including ethernet to ADSL modem.
I have now had to connect to a domain at work.  Everything is OK at work,

I'm being prompted to "Sign In with Windows Live ID" when I open my "My
Documents/My Pictures" folder.  This doesn't happen when I'm online....just
when I'm accessing my C: drive.  Does anyone know what this is and how to
make it stop?

I think my Hard drive has a boot sector virus and I'm wondering if it could
have been transfered to some data CDs and DVDs.  I had connected up a second
hard drive and my motherboard alerted me with "Boot sector write", "continue
yes/no".

I am using windows xp SP2 home edition.
I am the administrator on my PC. But i keep getting this error messages
saying that i need to login as administrator on my PC to disable some of the
start up services. Also i am not able to access task manager and regedit.

I have been trying to disable usb devices and not sure what step I am missing.
I set up a startup script to change the usbstor reg key from "3" to "4".  
Also used a group policy adm file to do the same thing.  I've read if the
device was never installed it will work the first time ...

I manage a small windows 2000 domain with a mix of win2k and xpsp2 machines.

I was wondering if there was a way to force laptop users to check into the
domain to allow updates to their computers.  The best way would be if i can
disallow login with a message that reports the computer most be returned to

Well, i can't find anything that makes sense on this issue.  Computer was
running fine and now this yellow pop up message comes up from time to time on
the task bar.  It includes text to run chkdsk and it does each and every time
I reboot.  I need to know how to fix this and ...

i've been attacked, and have begun cleaning up my system.  i have windows xp,
service pack 2 and have been running mcafee antivirus, spysweeper and
windowsdefender.  i amhaving the following issues:
2 error messages come up on boot-up" cannot find winupdaye.exe...." and then

I have been trying to do the recent security update. I have never had any
issues until now. I get to the point of it finishing, and then i get access
denied! then my pc goes thru and uninstalls the update it just took forever
to do ....help me pleaseeee
