Basically, I've heard both sides of the story, but I want to confirm if the following is true:
MS's product activation rules are illegal because:
   The law says:

I cannot format my hard disk. PLease some one tell me how
to format a hard disk under WinXP pro.

when upgrading from win98 to xp, setup stops during the
preinstallation phase. The timer counts down to about 84
minutes remaining then stops. the info screens to the
right continue to scoll along, but nothing else happens.

I have a member at TechTV who bought a used computer and
found that it has an illegal copy of WinXP Pro on it.  He
went out and bought a legal copy, but it will not let him
install over the other copy.  I suspect his only solution

Is there a good way to roll out Windows patches etc from Microsoft to all my
work stations? I thought there was a free program that Microsoft had to do
this that would check for updates, download them to a server and distribute
them to the clients but I can not find it.

I purchased a copy of Windows XP Professional.  I am using
the following installation method.  Boot from CD-ROM.  
Setup during the text based portion copys the necessary
files, then I get a message that setup is starting

that our coming in.  It works on all of our hardware
EXCEPT our latest batch, the Gateway 4100s.  It hangs

i reinstalled (new install) xp over old xp because of
viruses etc. well now when i boot my computer i have two
"windows xp home versions" to choose from. they are
identical in wording but when i highlite the latter, i get

I am trying to download and install the SP1 upgrade for
windows xp.  After the 1.9 meg file is downloaded I get a
msg that says "Windows XP SP1 is incompatible with this
version of Windows."  I am using Windows XP home.  What
