Do you need to have the Spanish version of the software
to install the OS in Spanish or can you download a update
or language pack or something?

I bought and installed XP Pro Upgrade (as an upgrade, not a new install)
over an existing install of XP Pro. Didn't lose any data or settings. I
think the old install was pirated. The old install had SP1. Do I need to
reinstall SP1? How can I tell if it's on the machine? Windows ...

All, I have created a bootable Windows XP SP1 cd, however,

Work up one morning & turned on the computer to insert
system discs.  We did so, but several files seem to be
missing and they asked for Windows XP disc,  Our computer
came preloaded and we were unable to find the disks

I just bought a new Maxtor 160 GB hard drive ( 7,200 RPM, 8 Meg Cache_).
Since its so much faster and roomier than the 30 GB Seagate that my system
