I have been running windows XP home for a year on a new pc. It had become rather clogged up and in the past I have just backed up files that I wanted, reformatted the drive and then reinstalled windows 98 etc.

Each time I try the install, I get to the "37 minutes to go" part and the progress bar and dots in the lower right stop. No mouse function nothing. I have tried many times, no luck.

According to the MS Press book, "Windows XP Inside/Out", you cannot log on as Administrator in XP Home (except when you run the last-ditch recovery utility from the OS CD). Also according to that book, when you install XP, it sets up just two accounts - Administrator and Guest.
