I have been running windows XP home for a year on a new
pc. It had become rather clogged up and in the past I have
just backed up files that I wanted, reformatted the drive
and then reinstalled windows 98 etc.

Hi,I hope someone can help me.  I am trying to upgrade
from win 98Se to XP.  When installing it stays at '79
minutes' left for hours.  When I run the compatability
program, I get a fatal error saying 'setup cannot create a

Each time I try the install, I get to the "37 minutes to
go" part and the progress bar and dots in the lower right
stop. No mouse function nothing. I have tried many times,
no luck.

I am tring to Upgrade form 98se to XP Home.  After
installation, when the computer restarts, it locks up
after logging in, before any I can get to the Start menu.  
I can't even use ctrl-alt-del.  I have restarted the

According to the MS Press book, "Windows XP Inside/Out", you cannot log on
as Administrator in XP Home (except when you run the last-ditch recovery
utility from the OS CD). Also according to that book, when you install XP,
it sets up just two accounts - Administrator and Guest.

I struggle on ME at the moment and have totally lost PC
Health (don't let's go into that now).
Hubby has just bought me the XP upgrade. I've not taken
the shrink wrap off yet.
