I bought a copy of windows xp pro from my college computer
store. It's a discounted copy and I can only buy one so I
was told that upon request Microsoft will give you another
product key so you dont have to go out and buy another

I have a Dimension 8300 3.2GHz which is only a few weeks old.
Just recently it has reached the choice of user account but the mouse will
not select either, although it still moves the cursor. No keyboard action
seems to work either. If I switch off/on a few times it will then work.

Can anyone tell me why I can't upgrade my Windows 2000 pro
machine to Windows XP pro?  I get the error message:
Windows XP setup does not support this upgrade....

My first surprise is that the bootable Windows 2000 CDROM did not autoboot.
After XP initialized and I logged on, it promptly told me:
"The CD-ROM is from an older version of Windows than the one you are
presently Using.  Setup functionality from this disk will be disabled".

Durring the installation of XP Pro on a barebones system,
(Shuttle SN41G2), I got the following error
message; "Cannot copy file Rover.ac_".  I let the
installation continue and XP Pro seems to run OK.

I am trying to install XP on a newly installed Maxtor hard
drive.  Since the external CD drive requires a driver for
the cpu to recognize the drive, I cannot run setup from
the CD.
