OK, I'm dumb. Had Windows ME on two-year-old machine with 30 Gig WD HD.
Attempted clean install of new Windows XP Home OEM. Using long version of
NTFS format hung at 65% complete every time. Short versions of FAT and NTFS
seemed to work, but Windows CD was unable to write ...

I have windows xp pro sp2, I get a popup error mesg
about every three to four days and it is always the same
mesg. It is a blue edged box the top right it has the
letters "RS" The error is:

Since I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere by MS on their site or here (new
here, so may have missed it), I thought I'd let you know that SP2 will not
install on some ASUS motherboards due to a BIOS conflict. The computer will
freeze at the Windows XP screen as it boots up.

My winxp sp2 stanby option was disabled (Stanby buttom dim) when i install
the system using self-customized unattended cd.
Tried with normal installation cd no problem.
Anybody have any idea how to fix this.

When right-click on My Computer and select Properties, there is a logo of
the manufacturer (like Dell or eMachines, etc.) on the General tab.
Can any company (ie. end-users) put their logos there ?  Or, do companies
need to enter some agreements with Microsoft first ?

I want to upgrade from XP Home w/SP2 to XP Professional.  
The copy of the XP Professional upgrade I have does NOT
have SP2 and probably doesn't have SP1.  My intent is to
reinstall the SPs after upgrading to XP Professional.

I'm trying to install Windows XP home edition w/sp2 onto a new hard drive.  
Download seemed to go through fine, but when I reboot I get an error message
saying... Windows could not start because the following file is missing or

Everytime I restart the computer I get a black screen
during the startup that asks if I want to go to Windows
Setup or to Start Windows.  It defaults to the Setup mode
and I have to manually change to Start Windows at each

I want to set-up my system to have xp pro and  2003 server in a dual boot
set-up.  I've not done this before and wondered if someone could give me an
idea of how and where to start ?  I have full versions of both OS and xp pro

I have a Dell Dimension 4400 which I am running into problems with
after trying to Re-Install Windows XP.  They entire system was slowing
down, We don't have much on there that couldn't be backed up to a CD,
So I decided to clear everything off and start with a Fresh Install.
