I needed to do a reinstall of XP Pro because of corrupt Windows files on a
Compaq 2800T Laptop.
All I want is to get to the point where I can get my data off (by CD or

Now when I follow the steps to resolve the situation it works up until the
uninstallation of sp2 is about to finish. I get the following messages:

Over the years, I've occasionally had trouble with sysprep removing
network cards. It doesn't always do it, just sometimes.
I've never been able to narrow down exactly when it might or might not
remove a NIC.

opens Eindows Explorer to folder System32.  Any guidance on how to stop this
