I got installation problem on Acer Travel Mate 2300. I bought new laptop with
XP home edition. But when I started to install from recovery disk it copys
the files then starts to reboot.  First Desktop showed but suddenly it showed
" fatal eror. Coputer is shut down" and restarts. ...

I've just reloaded WIndows XP from the recovery partition on my HP Pavilion.
Everything is working fine now but when I click on the HP recovery partition
in My Computer, there's nothing there.
Have the files/directories become hidden some how?

I've seen this topic discussed with mostly favorable results.
Current Setup:
C:\  FAT/DOS & boot files
E:\ on Drive 0  W2k that is corrupt and has to go.  -I'd like yank it

We are making a web based application which uses IIS 5.0 and above. The
application is designed to be installed and run from:
Windows 2003 Server
Windows 2000 Server

Can I perform a "clean install" of WinXP upgrade?  I have the Win98 CDs so
was hoping I could simply "insert Win98 CD to prove you own a copy" at some
point.  Is this possible?
I presume also that I still need to make sure I have a valid COA for the

1) Installed (2) new 120 Gig Hard Drives.
2) Started computer.
3) Systen BIOS reccognizes both drives at correct sizes.
4) Begin XP Pro install.

I recently got windows xp pro and im trying to do a upgrade from windows 98.
It says its anaylizing the computer and everything is fine.  It restarts and
then it says Setup cannot continue  "Line 3113 of INF File\ txtsetup.sif is
invalid.  Then it just goes back to the regular ...

We purchased a laptop with XP Home SP2 installed and I want to upgrade it to
XP Pro using our organization's volume licensed software.  Unfortunately, the
media I have for Pro is pre-SP2 so the upgrade won't work because Windows
thinks I'm installing an older version.

I have a mix of 600 windows xp machines that are installed with either
english or french versions of the media. is there something about the machine
that I can scan with an asset management tool that will tell me that about
the machine?

Is it possible to use a text file to get a computer name from and in the
process delete this name from the file which resides on network share?
We are thinking about adding a bat file at the end of the imaging process
that does this?
