I found out my preinstalled XP Pro is a pirate copy. I purchased XP Pro
upgrade retail version .Can I install over the existing version without
losing my other software and settings? I have a registered copy of Win 98 SE
as a qualifier.

Does anyone know if you can "disable" the System Compatibility check upon
starting the XP upgrade? I know in NT you can put a switch in that would
skip the check.

I am upgrading my HDD. New disk hangs while installing XP Pro. When setup
screen displays, I allow it to go to the 3rd option. The bottom of the screen
reads "setup is loading files (Windows Executive) ...  Well, nothing happens.

I am trying to encrypt some folders and files using the standard XP
functionality.  When right click on a file or folder, choose Properties then
Advanced, the option to Encrypt is greyed out.

But the front panel clock doesn't update when logged in as a limited user.
Even though the system clock in the tray is updating as normal.
