I recently upgraded a Dell L700xi PC from Win Me to XP. I ran the hardware
compatibility advisor which said there were no problems. I ran it off of a
Win XP home upgrade w/ SP2 CD. I updated the bios to the latest version.
Everything was fine except the video was 640 X 480 and 4 ...

using When a friend installed a new hard drive for me (Compter #2), he
installed his copy of XP. Since I own a legit copy of XP, I want to
install/register my legit copy.

Ater installing SP2 for XP Home Edition I get the message:
Windows cannot start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
then a suggestion to use the Windows Setup CDROM and slect 'r' for repair.

I find this option in System Properties | Advanced | Performance | Visual
Effects. I can see no "effect" when I uncheck it.
What is its relationship to Tools | Folder Options | Show Common Tasks?

I need to install XP-pro on a computer with a Hard drived larger than 137GB
The original XP installation disc does not allow this, since large disk
support is apperently not included before SP1

I need to reinstall XP Home. My CD is XP Home 2002. The version on the PC is
patched up to SP2. When I run install from the CD it gives this message:

We ran FASTwiz on the old pc which was Windows 2000, we then ran it on the
new Windows XP pc to restore the settings and user folders.  When the user
logged in, they created a new profile on the pc that was called  
"username.ourdomain".  The user had no access to their profile ...

My windows cd is scratced so that installation can read only about 30% of the
files. Before I try reapiring the physical cd I'd like to know if whether I
create a new cd e.g. by using slipstreaming. Thanks!

okay so i have multiple copies of xp home and pro,  and on the computer i am
currently building i have been running into a major problem, every time i
install xp home edition sp2 it goes through the whole instalation process
smoothly, and then with the final reboot it hangs on ...
