I acquired a second hand HP Pavilion with a bad HDD.  I have no way of
knowing who actually purchased it originally.  It is in good shape otherwise
and has the COA sticker on the side of the case.  
I have tried repeatedly to install XP Home using the PID from the COA with

 What happens if for some reason I have to remove XP Professional, and re
install XP Home edition? Will I lose anything, what changes might occur to my
media and programmes? Thanx in advance

I am considering to install XP Pro on a new hard disk using CD-based fully
unattend setup. But, how can I split the HD into partitions and specify which
partiiton to host the system folders? I didn't find any entries in the
Winnt.sif file.

According to the xp upgrade instructions my Flash BIOS Update Program should  
automatically launch after I copy my BIOS to a floppy and reboot. It doesn't
