Is there a parameter within Sysprep that will allow me to assign computer names automatically for a lab of 28 computers? They would have a name and then be numbered sequentially 101-128.

I have a DELL Latitude no CD or floppy. Need to fresh install XP but it won't start from a USB CD drive or even PCMCIA CD drive. The boot sequence in BIOS is set as 'Removable drive", "ATAPI CD" and then "Internal HDD". However still no luck.

Noticed following 2 hidden files under C:\Windows when deleting the SP2 $Uninstall files. Have no idea what they refer to and search of MS Knowledge Base nil. Any info if safe to delete these files would be appreciated.

This one has me mystified. Let me start by saying that the problem just appeared, ie. it was not coincident with any change to the hardware or to WinXP (SP2). All of a sudden the DVD and CDRW drives (which used to be U: and V:) are no longer recognized by WinXP. Details:

We need to the detect the machines "future HAL" from Windows PE in order to deploy the right PQI image to the machine. We have tried WMI without success. The devcon.exe utility (with find *HAL*) seems to return the same HAL all the time.

I run sysprep on Windows XP with SP2. I configure sysprep.inf to do the autologon stuff. I also set the registry to do autologon at:
