I have a damaged sony recovery cd so I can't restore my computer. Can I
install windows xp from my friends cd and then type in my cd key found on the
back of my computer

I have a failed install of XP Pro.
After the first reboot, it is stuck in a splash screen, blue screen with
error and a reboot.
If I try to start over, it picks up with the reboot scenario.

Any help with this?  It is based on an earlier post, but I've simplified the
