OEM Locked In Addition To BIOS Locked ?12 Jun 2006 19:00 GMT2
Had some time to kill and wanted to experiment w/ which CD/key
combos work and don't work, prior to being in a rush to finish a
given repair job.  In addition to the BIOS locked/SLP wrinkle, I
also have confirmed something else.  In fact, bef I wrote this,

Hey there! My Time pc froze and so I had to switch it off at the mains. Upon
switching it on I received an error message when logging on to my desktop. I
have windows XP. The message reads as follows:

My comp have recently started to freeze and software stop responding. I have
checked for viruses and spyware but I'm clean. Often when I start IE6 it
freezes and the CPU starts to run on high temp, when I check my process

I've just bought XP Pro upgrade for XP Home. It gets to copying system files
then comes up with an error that it cant read or write to drive C, suggests I
disable virus program which I do along with all the other security features

I have successfully (after a number of glitches) upgraded Win2K to XPPro
  today.
I have tried without success to do an update of files.  I have
downloaded some preliminary updates through Microsoft Update, including

I've just replaced a faulty hard drive in a second-hand laptop, which sadly
never came with it's XP Pro install CD-ROM.  On the underside of the laptop,
is the Certificate of Authority sticker, with the XP Pro Serial number. I

The problem is this. On a network. Upgraded from NT to XPsp2. Used old
profile - desktop admin.
When XP startmenu (simple) is used, clicking on the All Programs does not
pop up all the rest of the programs (they are there, in the right place).

I have just upgraded my Win2K to XP moments ago.  It went through the
whole cycle down to 0 seconds, rebooted, and then I ended up at a black
and white screen that apologizes for the inconvenience, but Windows did

FWIW, it'a laptop which means it's got WiFI stuff, too.
