I partitioned my laptop hardrive into Drive C: and Drive D:. I then
installed Windows XP on Drive C: and used Drive D: for my Data drive. Later
when I had to reinstall Windows XP, the options given me to install windows
was Drive D:, which used to be Drive C: and Drive C, which ...

I have a laptop with XP Pro on it.  It has a virus and lots of
problems, so I want to format and reinstall the OS.  I don't have a
recovery disk, but I do have the serial number of the Windows installed
on that computer.

machine. The uninstallatin files exist in
c:\windows\$ntservicepackuninstall\... . but after completion of a file
remains in ..\$ntservicepackuninstall\spuninst\_000225_tmp.dll still exists

So at some point I ran a windows update that failed. I restarted and the boot
screen came up and then the windows loading screen and then just a blank
screen with the cursor, and nothing else. I tried everything, safe mode, etc.

Due to a virus problem, I was attempting to reload the Windows XP OS on my
system.  I did something wrong and now have two copies of  XP loaded on my
system.  When the pc boots it asks me to choose an OS to use. How do I remove
