Just installed a brand new replacement system disk into my PC and loaded WINXP Pro. After installation I get the NTLDR is missing message on rebooting. If install CD is left in, I don't get the message.

I have divided my harddisk into four partitions: 3 primary and 1 logical drives. I am unable to mark any of the primary partition as active using Disk Management found in Computer Management as the option is greyed out.

uninstalled vista from a new hp 1700 and put in xp. everything works except have no com port -in device manager it's missing. have been told to unplug pci card and replug so that computer knows it's there. Is there any other way?

Does Microsoft maintain a site where you can input a product key and see how many times it has been activated? It would help me tremendously when buying software from unknown vendors to keep them honest and make sure they are not selling us software that someone else has already ...

Been having some problems trying to do a fresh install of Windows on my computer. When I try to remove my C: partition and re-format to start from fresh, it gives me the error: "This partition contains temporary Setup files that are required to complete the installation."

Recently bought a computer from auction and it has a genuine "XP Pro 1-2 CPU" licence sticker on the side. However, my own copy of XP Pro (no sp1 or sp2) doesn't accept the key during installation. Is there any way of telling which version of XP Pro this licence belongs to?

I have an IBM Thinkpad T30 which I purchased used from jr.com. It came with XP Pro installed on it. I tried to activate it, using the key provided on the bottom of my laptop; but try and try as I might, it wouldn't accept it.
