I installed XP pro with svc pk 1, not an upgrade, over a win2k system and
all is well.
Single user machine, no password etc needed, boots right to the desktop.
Installed svcpak 3, now it boots to a logon screen.  Enter gets it going

On 2 computers (Dell and IBM Thinkpad) running  Windows XP Pro Service Pack 3
I installed Nero 7 from a CD and after rebooting the computer I can not read
any more CDs but still able to read or write DVDs.
Then I uninstall Nero but the problem persist.

I am reinstalling XP Pro SP2 on a laptop that was repaired for a dead screen.
I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled the OS and drivers, in the same way I
did originally a couple of years ago.

It seems that my current HD is about to retire. Before I completely loose
access to all data on it I want to get me a new drive. Is there a way I can
later transfer my downloaded Windows updates, IE 7 etc. to this new drive? It
would be terrible should I have to download those ...

Can the user use the WinXP 32bit installer disk to boot from, format the
drive and install the 32bit version on a 64-bit hardware?  Or that's not
recommended? If I understand correctly there will be no issues but he may
not see all his memory if it is 4GB or more correct?

I have Windows XP Pro. Because I had a problem a few days ago I did a Repair
install from the Windows CD.
Everything works fine but there is a problem. I get the message that there
is a new update and no matter how many times I selected to install it, it

A 6 year old machine all of a sudden discovered the CD Player for the first
time and won't mount it to due a corrupted driver. I plugged in an external
CD Player, same thing.
It is attempting to use the standard Microsoft driver v5.1.2535.0 from 2001.

I recently had to make a repair installation on my WinXP. Before the repair,
it was updated to SP2, but as I only had a Win CD with SP1, I used that one.
After the repair I had problems with network communication, so I ran repair
installation again. It seemed better at the time.
